The Pre-School focuses on dynamic educational interaction, life skills and personal enrichment. Our curriculum is child orientated and adapted to the age, ability and developmental stage of the children. Our classroom layout is well planned and fully equipped with the children's needs in mind.
We have two Grade PR classes which place special emphasis on perceptual and large motor development. We have three Grade R classes which place special emphasis on preparing the children for Grade 1. This is done through three main learning areas - Numeracy, Literacy and Life Skills.
Our Speech and Occupational Therapists are involved in the Pre-School classrooms. The Occupational Therapist provides weekly class sessions assisting the teachers with identifying and working on any difficulties the children may have. The Speech Therapist works in the area of pre-reading and phonic development. Lessons are prepared for the PR teachers to ensure the development of these skills. The Speech Therapist works on a weekly basis in Grade R focussing on pre-reading and also helping teachers in identifying any difficulties.
Another favourite in the Pre-School is computers. Learners embark on an exciting computer programme which they build on from Grade R for the rest of their school career.
Our learners also experience the pleasure of a learn to swim programme, conversational Zulu, bi-weekly visits to our Resource Centre for story time, music and movement and a physical training programme designed especially for our Grade PR and R learners.
At the end of their Grade R year, the learners have a Grade 1 party day and later a graduation ceremony where they are awarded a certificate and Marist Brothers Teddy Bear.
The Pre-School has one Fundraiser per year that is well supported by parents, grandparents, learners and extended family.
