Marian Resource Centre

The Marian Resource Centre is a vibrant space in our school that endeavours to create life-long readers. The centre times are 07:15 – 16:00, Monday to Thursday and closes at 15h00 on a Friday for parents, learners and teachers. The shelves are filled with fiction and non-fiction books, encyclopaedias and magazines.

The centre boasts the following areas: Conference Room, Auditorium, Amphitheatre, Primary School Library, High School Library, Picture Book Section, Reference Section, Teacher’s Reference Section, Parental Resources Section, Computer Room and Audio-Visual Room.

The Conference Room is used for meetings of the Board of Governors, Principals, Heads of Departments, Grade Tutors and teachers. The Auditorium can seat 125 people and is used for various meetings such as public speaking, debating, parental talks and film study. The Amphitheatre is an outside space that can host teas, musical groups, reading or drama groups. The Grade PR-3 learners visit the centre to change their library books and listen to a story. Building a love for reading and books is our first aim here.

The Grade 4-7 learners are taught “Information Skills”. Learners are taught how not to plagiarise, use the Dewey Decimal Classification System, work with Metacogs®, design posters and set out a proper bibliography to name a few skills. Learners are also encouraged to take out library books during these lessons as the staff at Marist Brothers Linmeyer promotes the concept of “A book in a bag” where learners are encouraged to have at least one book in their bag purely for enjoyment purposes. The computers in the Computer Room are all linked to the Internet and are loaded with Educational packages. Learners can print their work in black and white or colour if they have opened a personal photocopy account. Learners work on the Cami Maths program with their class teachers and practise their Cami Maths after school as well.

Advanced Programme Maths learners work on the computers and e-mail their work to the teacher concerned.
Advanced Programme English learners access resources via a link from their computers to the server.
High School past exam papers in an electric format are also made available to the learners.
An interactive “Smartboard” is installed in the Audio-Visual Room and the Computer Room. Learners take part in interactive lessons; give presentations or participate in film studies here.
Parents are also encouraged to borrow material both for their own personal reading or to read to their children.
Learners are able to search the library catalogue on the Libwin Library System.

We encourage learners to buy their own books by hosting various bookshops during the year including a Catholic bookshop just before the annual First Holy Communion celebration.

The Marian Resource Centre is a one stop shop, inviting learners to complete their work, conduct research or simply relax on a beanbag with a good book.
