The Good and Evil of Technology

Dear Marist Family,.

This week, Mr Williams and I attended a Catholic Schools Principals’ meeting at which Fr Russell Pollitt from the Jesuit Institute, spoke about, “Living with Integrity in a Digital World”. This is a critical topic that links to the CSO’s theme for 2018 of “Keeping God’s Children Safe”. Fr Russell referred to the ‘Child Dignity in the Digital World 2017’ Conference that took place in Rome last year.

As a School and as Marist families, we often discuss the benefits of technology and the role it plays in the educational process and as Parents and Educators, we have a responsibility to ensure that what our children expose themselves to is good and not evil!

Some researchers have stated that the Internet is the world’s greatest social experiment in history – and we, as parents, need to make it our business to know what our children are up to.

Please take the time to look at ‘Child Dignity in the Digital World’ (weprotect.org) and click here watch the YouTube video.

It gives some scary insight as to what could be happening to some of our children. Here is an extract from a wonderful article by Valerie Strauss on Nelson Mandela:

Some of the most famous quotes of the revered Nelson Mandela are about education: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.

God bless!
