MARIST BROTHERS LINMEYER

Grade 8 Bell Ceremony – New Tradition

‘Ringing in’ at the beginning of Grade 8 and ‘Ringing out’ after the last Matric exam.

At the beginning of this year the Grade 8 students were ‘Rung in’ on their first day, Wednesday 11 January. Each Grade 8 student was given a candle with their name on and then lined up in classes at the entrance to the admin building. They then walked through the building, rang the brass school bell, lit  their candle from a large one and then proceeded to their line-up area. They read a special prayer which was given to them on a bookmark. The rest of the   student body did the school war cry after the announcements and welcomed the Grade 8s into the High School.

The Candles will be stored until these children complete their Matric at the end of  2021 and then after their last exam, they will collect their candle, light it once more, ring the bell, remove their school shoes and proceed through the admin block and leave the school. The donated shoes will then be donated to school children who do not have shoes. A number of shoes were donated by our Class of 2016 at the end of last year.
