Should your Child be Doing Chores?

Children need chores. Age appropriate chores are important for kids!

Simple chores make children:

  • Feel needed and helpful.
  • They teach responsibility.
  • That they are important in the household.

Research indicates that those children who do have a set of chores have higher self-esteem, are more responsible, and are better able to deal with frustration and delay gratification, all of which contribute to greater success in school.

Parenting expert Nikki Bush says chores teach a child a set of skills that are different to learn at school. She further adds “Children who become competent at doing chores develop confidence and self-belief.” As hard as it is, do not do everything for your children! Let them do what they can.
