Mrs Deirdre Petersen

Mrs Petersen joined Marist Brothers Linmeyer in 2002, when she accepted the Physical Education teacher’s post for Grades 8 to 12. She encourages her students to be true to themselves and mindful of others. Mrs Petersen has had a most interesting and eventful life and has accomplished much over the years. She received her ‘O’ Levels at Mabelreign Girls High School, Salisbury, Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) and went on to obtain a Diploma in Secretarial and Business Studies from the Salisbury Polytechnical College, Rhodesia. She was a corporate secretary for 16 years, including performing the role of private secretary to the Honourable Judge Cecil Margo (Heldeberg Commission).

Mrs Petersen’s passion and interest in Physical Education has resulted in her obtaining the following qualifications: A Diploma in Personal Fitness Training and Certificates in Human Movement, Exercise Science, Spinning, Step Aerobics, Group Aerobics, Basic Pilates, Functional Training, Sports Nutrition, First Aid, Learn-to-Swim, Leadership Skills and the Assessors’ Course. She continues to be an Exercise and Fitness trainer working in facilities all around Johannesburg. Mrs Petersen led an exciting 4 years as an assistant journalist and personal trainer in Europe on the Motorcycle Grand Prix Circuit.

Mrs Petersen is currently teaching Physical Education to all the High School students and Life Orientation to Grade 8s. She is the coordinator of the High School Prefects and has a passion for teaching Health, Fitness and Leadership. Her hobbies include Travel, Exercise, Reading and Motorcycle Racing. Her favourite quote is, “If you get tired learn to rest not to quit,” by Banksy. People who are happy in their own skin inspire Mrs Petersen. In her opinion, the beautiful facilities, the pleasant working environment, the privilege of working with young people and the unlimited opportunities for growth and enrichment are what make Marist Brothers Linmeyer special.
