Mrs Koch received a Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in Mathematics and English and a Post Graduate Higher Diploma in Education from the University of the Witwatersrand University. She is currently in her final year of completing her Honours degree in Education from North West University. She has been teaching for 23 years and only in Marist Schools. This is her 18th year at Marist Brothers Linmeyer and she is currently teaching Grade 12 Mathematics. The other subjects that she has taught include English, Mathematical Literacy and Advanced Programme Mathematics. Mrs Koch particularly loves teaching Calculus and Trigonometry. She finds the differences in the way in which the male and female students learn Mathematics fascinating. Mrs Koch hopes to instil confidence in her students and she would like every student to realise the best in themselves. Her biggest encouragement is that not everyone can do Mathematics and that is okay, as long as her students try their best. For students who are taking Mathematics, a hand over their heart and deep breaths help calm their anxiety.
She loves spending time with her family. She has a passion for Reading, Running, Traveling, Singing and enjoys watching live shows at the theatre. Her inspirations are her parents, Wendy and Roy Nolan. Some interesting facts about Mrs Koch: she was a member of a band called JST2 who performed at weddings, office parties and at a restaurant every Sunday night. She played provincial and district Netball in Primary School and High School respectively, she performed the role of Anita in West Side Story in Grade 11 and the role of Rizzo in Grease in Grade 12. Mrs Koch was Head Girl in high school. Her favourite quote is by Thomas Jefferson, “Never put off till tomorrow that which you can do today”. In Mrs Koch’s opinion, the Family Spirit, Love of Work, Presence, Simplicity and all these attributes carried out In the Way of Mary, are what make Marist Brothers Linmeyer special…she believes that this is her second home.
