For 10 years, Ms Coertze was a Salesian Sister, 4 years of which she lived in Ireland. On returning to South Africa, she taught in Cape Town at the Loreto Convent in the Strand. She spent 3 years studying “Bread for the Journey Programme” through the Catholic Bible Foundation and since 2008; she has participated in the “Study of the Scriptures in the Jewish Context.” Each year a different Book of scripture is studied. Ms Coertze has been teaching for 37 years, 21 of those years at Marist Brothers Linmeyer. She was attracted to Marist Brothers Linmeyer because of Marcellin Champagnat’s love for the young people, especially those who are less fortunate. He and Don Bosco (Salesians) have a similar charisma. The love for young people is very dear to her.
Ms Coertze is currently teaching Grades 8 to Grade 12 Religious Education. She is the coordinator of Confirmation at School with the Grade 11 students and in St Patrick’s Catholic Church, La Rochelle. Ms Coertze organizes the retreats for each grade in the School and for the staff.
Ms Coertze loves Scrapbooking, Reading and working with charities. Her favourite quote is, “Love does not seek for power, but for relationships.” – A course on Miracles. Scripture and people who truly care about others inspire her. Ms Coertze encourages her students to care, love and respect one another because you never know if we will be here tomorrow.
